25 10-Minute Plays for Teens

25 10-Minute Plays for Teens

edited by Lawrence Harbison

A collection of short plays perfect for teen actors!

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – “It has always been my belief,” writes Lawrence Harbison in his introduction to 25 10-Minute Plays (December, 2014, Applause Books, 16.99), “that schools are far too reliant on the “usual suspects”—famous plays from Broadway with few or no teen characters.”

And so, in 25 10-Minute Plays for Teens, young thespians in high school and middle school will find terrific plays by some of our most prominent playwrights, such as Don Nigro, Wendy MacLeod, Jeff Goode, Bekah Brunstetter, and Constance Congdon; and equally terrific plays by such exciting up-and-comers as Chad Beckim, C. S. Hanson, Merridith Allen, Sharyn Rothstein, and Kayla Cagan. The characters are teens, and the subject matter will be of interest to aspiring young actors, making it easy for them to connect with the characters and situations.

Harbison’s collection is perfect for teens who want to take the initiative and do a play with their friends, or drama teachers looking for inspiration beyond yet another production of Arsenic and Old Lace. The title page of each play includes information on how to procure permission to produce it.

I’ve worked closely and happily with Lawrence Harbison for a quarter of a century now…during which time he has been instrumental in getting the work of hundreds of new writers into print. … His deep love of the theater and for all sorts of plays, his unbounded enthusiasm for the good work, and his tremendously clear eye for talent are all legendary.”

– Don Nigro
