Best Contemporary Monologues

Applause Books Publishes Two Volumes of Best Contemporary Monologues

edited by Lawrence Harbison

Best Contemporary Monologues for Women & Best Contemporary Monologues for Men

Lawrence Harbison’s Best Contemporary Monologues for Men 18-35 and Best Contemporary Monologues for Women 18-35 (November 2014, $16.99) are the latest entries in The Applause Acting Series.

In each volume, Lawrence Harbison has selected nearly 100 terrific monologues from contemporary plays, all for characters between the ages of 18 and 35 – perfect of auditions or class.  Most have a compelling present-tense action for actors to perform.  A few are story monologues – and they’re great stories.  Some selections are comic; some are dramatic.  Some are short; others are rather long.  All represent the best in contemporary playwriting.

Actors will find pieces by star playwrights such as Don Nigro and Itamar Moses; by exciting up-and-comers such as Nicole Pandolfo, Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, Crystal Skillman, and Greg Kalleres; and information on getting the complete text of each play.

There are must-have resources in the arsenal of every aspiring actor hoping to knock ’em dead with his contemporary piece after bowling over teachers and casting directors alike with a classical excerpt.
